This unique facility offers a rare opportunity to experience the traditional artistry and craftsmanship that define Tokyo’s historic downtown culture. Located just a 3-minute walk from THE KANZASHI TOKYO ASAKUSA, it’s a must-visit destination during your stay.
Why Asakusa Became a Hub for Craftsmanship
Asakusa, located in Taito City, has long been known as a bustling center of culture and craftsmanship. In the Edo period, the area flourished as a “temple town” centered around Sensoji Temple and Kan’ei-ji Temple in nearby Ueno. As Tokyo grew, craftsmen gathered here, creating a lively community of artisans.
With the rise of entertainment districts like Yoshiwara, and the relocation of theaters for kabuki and puppet shows, Asakusa became one of Edo’s most vibrant hotspots. The high demand for crafted goods in this thriving cultural scene further nurtured the skills of local artisans—a legacy that continues to this day.
What Is the Edo Taito Traditional Crafts Center?

The Edo Taito Traditional Crafts Center is a cultural facility dedicated to showcasing the traditional crafts of the Taito area. Inside, you’ll find over 50 types of exquisite handcrafted items, including **Edo Kiriko cut glass, Tokyo silverware, Edo woodblock prints, traditional mounts, and joinery**.
The exhibits are divided into permanent and special exhibitions. Large multilingual displays (in English, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese) explain the background and techniques of each craft. QR codes are placed alongside the items, allowing visitors to easily access detailed information on their smartphones—making the experience enjoyable for international guests as well.

Best of all: admission is completely free!Whether you’re exploring Asakusa for the first time or just looking for a peaceful break, this center is the perfect spot to appreciate the depth of Japanese culture.
